I'm actually up to date with this blog at the moment. The plan from here is to head south turning off highway 1 just before Port Hedland and drive down towards Marble Bar where we intend to turn east for about 70 kms to Meentheena Station. There is a veteran's retreat there, where we can stay and hopefully get away from all these wretched caravans and people.
Out of Derby and off to Broome. A fascinating place with lots to see and do. As usual all the local tour operators, caravan parks etc see the tourist as a bottomless pit of money to be ripped off as fast possible.
However rant over some pics.

\Cable Beach Broome.
In a word Stunning!
Stunning
China town Broome
The pearling industry is what this place was all about originally.
Hand operated air pump for the diver to breath.
Pearl shop
A few pics of the town
Open air cinema
Port of Broome
The jetty is a popular fishing spot with some large catches happening quite often. They tell me.
Broome caravan park, crowded as usual.
The weather here is perfect, 30 degrees by day with cool nights and unbelievably virtually no insects. I mean no flies by day and no mossies by night.
Moving on to Derby on the WA North Wet Coast, not a very interesting place, little going for it. Extremely tidal (11 metre tides) and mostly mud and mangroves. Sound familiar.
A few Pics.
A few Pics.
The prison Boab Tree
Tells all about it.
Apparently one has to hug a Boab tree. Go on ask me why.
The longest wstering trough.
Frosty's Pool put in by some diggers during WW2 as somewhere to cool off.
Derby wharf.

Today.
June 27th
Refueled at Hall's Creek, $1.58 per litre, didnt stay long, a depressing little town
Went on for another 120 or so Kms and set up camp in another freebie. Not much to photograph except more caravans. Tomorrow we drive through Fitzroy Crossing and on to yet another freebie campsite we hope. Next major destination, Broome and that will be expensive.
Cheers for now.

Left Kununurra and pointed towards Halls Creek, pulled into Doon Doon Roadhouse to stretch the legs and met this remarkable lady.

Yes that's her bike and trailer.

A wee bit taller than Nanny Myra and I guess about the same age give or take.
A resident somewhere on the Mornington Peninsular, She flew to Darwin with the bike etc and is riding to Perth. Asked her where does she camp, she said Oh I just pick a spot in the bush. She has done this trip several times.
I stand in awe.
