Turning South off the highway to Port Hedland we made our way down to Marble Bar the hottest townin Australia, but not this time of the year. Driving into Marble Bar I am pulled over for a breath test at 11am, I said to the copper it's a long drive from Melbourne to Marble Bar for a breath test. It was because the one day of the year Marble Bar races were on that day, no wonder the road was so busy.
On the way to Marble Bar you go through Coogan's Gorge which is narrow and very tight turns. There are warning signs telling you to announce that you are light vehicle with caravan Eastbound over your UHF radio. This is because of oncoming ore carrying road trains 4 huge trailers with a total weight of 130 tonnes.
I called out a warning quite a few times.

After refueling and buying some  takeaway lunch at Marble Bar we drove on to the Veteran's Retreat at Meentheena 75 kms east of Marble Bar.

The following pics are of the main camp at Meentheena.

Myra hard at work doing the laundry.

We thought the area a little sparse on first impressions and opted to camp about 2 kms away down by the river, a beautiful spot with crystal clear water where you can easily see the fish swimming, mostly very small with occasional reasonable size catfish.
I'd like to show some photos of this campsite but so far have forgotten to take some. I will add them when I update next.
